The teleconsultation center will be staffed with experienced EMS physicians, known as tele-EMS physicians. They steadily support the paramedic teams in emergencies via mobile communication technology. Vital signs and pictures of the emergency site, as well as video streaming from inside the ambulance will be transferred to the teleconsultation center on a real-time basis to sufficiently inform the tele-EMS physician.
The data transmitted will allow the tele-EMS physician to diagnose the patient and then support the EMS team on site recommending the appropriate treatment. Software will support the tele-EMS physician implementing a guideline-oriented patient care. Working with such guidelines results in a consistent, uniform and high quality treatment by the EMS personnel on site.
The teleconsultation center offers the opportunity to include additional and more extensive sources of information during the emergency mission, which is of especial advantage when treating rare diseases. For example direct communication with the poison control center or the access to external medical databases is provided for the tele-EMS physician. Additionally, more contact persons, such as hospitals, cath-labs, experts and general practitioners are available for him.
