The company P3 Communications offers its peeqBOX for the EMS personnel on the emergency site. This ultra-mobile communication unit is placed in a pocket of the ECG/defibrillator “HeartStart MRx” (Philips Healthcare) and allows the connection to the teleconsultation center. A secure network between many mobile communication relations is provided so that the information of the emergency site can be transferred to the teleconsultation center in a reliant and encrypted form.
Each paramedic has the opportunity to consult the tele-EMS physician with a Bluetooth headset by a simple click. The connection will be provided by the best available mobile communication network. In addition, the teleconsultation center can be reached by a telephone number, which can be used by a backup cell phone in the ambulance, by a cell phone of an EMS physician on site, or by landline, e.g. of the patient’s apartment. Therefore, even areas with lacking coverage of mobile communication can be accessed in the best manner.
The ECG/defibrillator by Philips Healthcare continuously records vital signs, such as cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, or pulse oximetry of the patient and transfers those data to the tele-EMS physician for an immediate diagnosis. Remote auscultation is facilitated using the 3M Littmann 3200 Stethoscope which allows the tele-EMS physician to listen to, and control the stethoscope in the ambulance, as if he was with the patient.
In order to display the best possible image of the emergency site for the tele-EMS physician, the EMS personnel has the opportunity to take pictures with a digital camera, e.g. medication lists or medical records. The photo material will automatically be send to the teleconsultation center.
